Diels-Alder-Chitosan based dissociative covalent adaptable networks

For the first time, Diels-Alder and retro reactions were evidenced by 1H NMR spectroscopy DSC on chitosan based systems. At first, preliminary studies led to structural identification better understanding of reaction. Then, 30,000 g/mol 150,000 modified furfuryl glycidyl ether with 20% substitution degree. The resulting products cross-linked bis trismaleimide crosslinkers produce films possessing interesting mechanical properties. Unprecedented for chitosan-based films, DMA measurement highlighted between 110 130 °C. Films showed hydrophobicity fat absorption. They also exhibited resistance in acidic media whereas crude dissolved.

We introduce the fully reversible folding of single chain nanoparticles (SCNPs) based on covalent hetero Diels-Alder (HDA) chemistry. A cyclopentadiene (Cp)-protected cyanodithioester (CDTE) monomer is designed and copolymerized with methyl methacrylate (MMA) via RAFT polymerization.
